One of the big challenges in product launches is communicating the value of what we are releasing. Sometimes we get too flowery I think. So let me take a non-marketing approach and try to capture the value in a sentence or two.
"WordPerfect Office was always a good suite. With X4 we made the office suite better and on top of that added a bunch of other tools that people are currently paying hundreds of dollars for."
To get more specific:
For a better suite, we:
- started with the core applications (word processor, spreadsheet, presentations, with other additions in different bundles)
- made them more compatible with new formats (like ODF and the newest Microsoft ones) so you can share more easily
- made it more compatible with Vista (so that it works better with newer PCs)
- made certain workflows better
- fixed customer specific bugs
And the other tools we add for free:
- PDF output out of each of the applications -> Full Acrobat is $399 and this is the most used functionality in it
- Redaction tools -> People pay tens to hundreds of dollars
- OCR to bring in and recognize text in scanned documents -> Again, people pay over $100 for this functionality
- A digital notebook -> I have seen from $49 to $99
- Online collaborative applications like eMail, calemdaring, and storage -> I have seen from free to $5 per month
- Templates, 8000 clipart photos, etc that are again hundreds of dollars
- A free starter edition of a Business Intelligence tool
So, what do you think of X4? And what do you think of my approach to marketing?
