I am running Lightning without problems so far on Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

I am also running Firefox V3.0.1, also without problems.  However - when I open Firefox, there is a note that the newly installed Lightning extension is not compatible with Firefox 3.0.1.

I see other posts on this site going back to 2007 with Firefox problems.  Firefox is now over 18% of the browser market.  Lightning (which I received with my newly purchased WordPerfect Office X4 - [I have been a WP user since V4 back in the 1980's]) seems like an excellent product, but this forum site seems to be getting very little helpful response for the users attempting to get help with this problem.

From the dating I see, it would seem that there have been no updates to the product for nearly a year since a check showed no responses to my request for updates, and my current version of Lightning was built in Sept 2007.  I see that the Firefox extension in the Lightning file area is dated back to April 2007.

Help? Any time soon?

Hi Sandman,

Sorry things have been a bit quiet.  With the activity of launch and then vacations I haven't been giving the site the attention it deserves lately.

The FireFox issues have only cropped up with version 3, so I am not familiar with the ones you have seen from before.  I do have a workaround but we are working on a fix we can broadcast widely.  But, if I can not get that up shortly I will pass along the workaround.

Cheers,

Jay

Jay,

Is there any news on this? It's stopping me trying Lightning seriously

Hi Andrew,

My barriers aren't technical.  The procedure for making Lightning work is:

Update the install.rdf file in the Lightning FirefoxExtension folder (search for the file - there may be a few but choose the one in the Lightning folder and then edit it with something like TextPad or WordPad):

Change:

<Em:minVersion>1.5</em:minVersion>

<Em:maxVersion>2.0.0.*</em:maxVersion>

To:

<Em:minVersion>1.5</em:minVersion>

<Em:maxVersion>3.0.*</em:maxVersion>

This, of course, is the very technical way to change it.  We do have a new .xpi file that you simply drag onto FireFox and it will work.  But, the best solution is for me to upload this file somewhere so FireFox will check it with subsequent downloads and updates.  That is what I am working to get done.

So, let me know if this works for you and once I get the other set up it will be transparent for everyone else.

Regards,

Jay

hiya jay,

just wanted to mention that there is a problem with XP as well. i have FF 3.0.3 & XP Home. the only problem i have is that FF 3.0.* will not allow FF to copy to Lightning. used to use Lightning quite a bit to copy; am now stuck with Notepad.

do not understand that tech stuff up there, so am waiting for whatever you come up with that FF can understand.

Thanks, Kitty

Still waiting...

As for finding the extension in Firefox, it's not very easy. The folder is not named, and it is not clarified whether the extension is stored in the Profile extension folder or the application extension folder. Haven't found it yet.

Why is it not part of the Firefox add-on Web site?

Thanks Jay.

I am also frustrated by the lack of a plug in for Firefox, and an inability to get to any of the on-line functions of Lightening, like calendar and e-mail.

What's up, and how can I get to these on-line resources?

Hi folks,

I should have good news on the plug-in front shortly.  It was my mistake as I tried to get this posted in the wrong place and through the wrong people.  I should have either talked to the folks we did some work with earlier who are higher up or tried a different path than the one I did.

My apologies on the delay.  I think I have it worked out now (finally).  Stay tuned.

Regards,

Jay

Hi jliggett

To get access to the online pieces, you should simply have to go to your synching folder.  Do you have the public beta or v1 version?  (they look a bit different and I can guide you how to get this working).
