Do not know where else to post this question.

I know Corel supports Quad-core in their graphics and video packages.  But, does WP have Quad-core support?  If so, in what version did it start?

Thanks,

I don't think so.

I cannot get graphics (JPG & PNG) to open in WP X3 or X4 using Windows 7 on a Dell XPS 9000 using an Intel i7 CPU (quad-processor).

When I try to insert a graphic, I get the error message: "CdrConv.exe — Application Error: The instruction at 0x036cd6e7 referenced memory at 0x00000007. The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the program."

When I click "OK", I get a second message: "WordPerfect: Detected file format is not supported."

My friend, Dave, is not having this problem with WP X3 on his Windows 7 PC, but he’s got an AMD processor; not an Intel quad.

I tried to get Corel Support, but because I bought the Student/Teacher version of WP Office X4, support is not offered. (That was not stated in the sales pitch to get me to buy that package.)

By the by, I cannot edit my WP X3 or X4 macros unless I turn of my User Account Code in WIndows 7.

The support aspect is not good, especially if Corel wants students to continue using the program after graduation, or it they want teachers to promote the program.

I have the exact same problem, except with an HP Core i7 notebook. Have you found a solution yet?

I inquired at Corel, and they suggested a complete uninstall, even removing items from the registry. Then, reinstall WP Office. I followed instructions completely.  Everything installed properly and graphic support returned...for two days. Then, everything has returned to the:

CdrConv.exe application error. The instruction at 0x03b5258e referenced memory at 0x03b279fd. The memory could not be written. Click OK to terminate the program.

Can anyone help? Please.

After much research, here's what creates the problem on my PCs:
1.  I can insert any number of JPG until I File > Publish to PDF.
2.  After that, I can insert one more JPG (sometimes).
3.  The second JPG insertion gets the error message: "CdrConv.exe — Application Error: The instruction at 0x036cd6e7 referenced memory at 0x00000007. The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the program."
4. When I click "OK", I get a second message: "WordPerfect: Detected file format is not supported."

Having 2 User accounts - one User account used to create WP documents with graphics in them and a 2nd User account used to create PDF files is dumb+8, but I can find no alternative.  IF you can, please, share it.

If you haven't guessed, I've installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, etc. multiple times - all without success.

You can uninstall & reinstall to your heart's content.  The moment that PDF is created, insertion of JPG is not possible (after the 1st one).

I can not duplicate that problem in X4 with latest patch on vista64home with amd quad.

You could try right clicking the cdrconv.exe and set the the Property Compatibility to a lower version.

Other than that, try copy and paste to wordpad first or convert in a program like irfanview first.  I generally do the latter for camera photos taken at sizes too big for wp.

This problem only exists when one is using the Intel Quad processors.

I have WP X3 on my Vista PCs, and there is no problem.

Copying and pasting into WordPad is a non-starter for the lessons that I am sharing with my friends & family.  Click on any of my lesson at http://DarryD.com and you'll see that converting them in WordPad would be a tremendous amount of work, requiring much more effort than the Switch User process I'm using now.

One would think that WordPerfect, which has worked since File > Print > PDF for so long, would have known and created a fix for the Intel quad-core processors that are so prolific in today's market.

Thanks for troubleshooting the problem by isolating the PDF function. I'm going to use your work-around until Corel fixes the problem.

I don't know if you have encountered this problem as well, but when WordPerfect is corrupted with the bug, the print functions foul up also. It takes a long time for a simple print job to complete. And when printing with columns, it won't print properly. Hopefully, the source of this problem is the same. With a clean install everything prints fine.

Doh!  I made a stupid mistake and used the ">publish to PDF " again, which of course, knocked out my capacity to insert graphics. I should have made a second user like Darry suggested, but I didn't. Thought I'd just not use the publish to PDF feature, but I forgot.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times, but I canot get graphics insertion back. Everytime I've reinstalled, I get  "Unknown File Format", whenever I try to insert graphics. What's going on?

In your reinstall, did you select all graphic filters to reinstall?  Did you set the compatibility of convcdr.exe to xp or lower?

Does copy and paste images work?  You could open the images in another program first.  For one test, try inserting the Image in Presentations and the copy it and paste to wp.  There is a macro that can help automate that at wpuniverse.com.

I also wrote a macro to make multiple pastes using IrfanView at wpu.  http://www.wpuniverse.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30690

Thanks for this info. I have been wrestling with this problem for months. At this point, I usually end up dumping the files to another computer to insert the graphics and then bringing them back to my main computer.

I have tried all the solutions from Corel including the tedious task of reformating my entire system (something that is not new to me but a hassel to have to go through). The reformat didn't end up working either, but I can't say whether I did a PDF creation before I noticed the problem again. I probably do pdfs just about everyday.

I will have to go back and try your temporary solution. Perhaps I can confirm what you suspect here.

I really wish Corel would address this issue. This has bothered me to the point of thinking about going over to MS WORD. The organization I work in already uses it for everything. I'm just about the only hold-out, but if corel can't fix problems like this (inserting graphics is a major part of document prep), then i might just junk the whole thing and switch.

Yes, Kenneth, I selected all graphic filters to reinstall.

I found a work-around tonight. I selected "properties" on the WordPerfect icon and changed the compatibility to "Windows XP Service Pack 3". For the time being everything is working.

Thanks.

Please, let me know if that continues to work.  I'd like to be able to not have to use the 2nd User just to publish to PDF.

IF I understand you correctly, you reinstalled WP X4 onto an Intel Quad processor PC, changed the WP shortcut (on the desktop) to compatability to "Windows XP Service Pack 3" and you can now Publish to PDF after you've inserted 2 or more graphics into WP documents?

What surprises me the most is the dates on these posts.  Look at how long we have been discussing - in distress - this problem, and Corel has sat quieter than my brother during a math quiz.  Surely a corporation the size of Corel has someone who monitors these blogs.  Someone, who actually uses WordPerfect X4 and can write code, could fix this problem in under an hour with time at the coffee machine included.

The old adage, "If you don't take care of your customers, someone else will - and they will leave you for him."

We are having a similar problem. Running X4 on a new Dell Vostro with an Intel i7 processor. When a graphic is inserted WP will come up with an error  "Detected File Format is not supported" - regardless of what type of file is inserted. Occasionally CdrConv.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close is displayed but not often.  I haven't used the programs Publish to PDF tool as we run other PDF printing programs.

I've tried numerous uninstall/reinstalls and program repairs without any improvement. This machine is running Windows XP. I've ended up installing a trial version of X3 and it manages to insert pictures without any problems. Unfortunately we only have 2 days remaining in the trial. Not sure what our options are then as we have to be able to insert graphics into WP documents on this machine.

Not entirely correct. I did not try the publish to PDF feature, because I was afraid I would lose the graphics insertion again. I'm away from my computer today, but will try it later this evening.

I share your frustration about Corel not speaking to the issue. At least, let us know a fix is in the making. I've been a WordPerfect user for approximately 25 years, since DOS 4.0.

Cheers.
