Is there a way to put page numbers along the side of the page - rather that at the top or the bottom? I would like a small text box on alternating sides of the page with the current page number. If anyone has an idea on how I can accomplish this, I would be very appreciative.
The only way I can think of is to create a text box on each page with the page number in it...A very manual process though (but you can copy/paste to make it a bit simpler)...Just create the first page with the textbox and insert via Format->Page->Insert Page Number. Then, select that whole first page and then copy and paste into subsequent pages - the number should automatically increment.
Cheers,
Jay
Thank you Jay! That worked very well. Now I have one more question. Is there a way to preserve the position on the page when you copy a text box and paste it on another page? I'd like all of these to be 3 inches down from the top of the page. But in my trial just now, then are all placed at the cursor. But the numbers do increment correctly:-)

Lorrie, select the text box, then right-click it. Choose Position. Change the anchor to Page. Now, you should be able to set the vertical position to 3" down from the top of the page, or presumably, with a 1" top margin, set it to 2" from the Top Margin.
Does this work for you?
Laura,
It works fine for each individual page. But when I try to copy and paste - it loses the relationship to the page margins. I have to reset it for each new page that I past the box to. Luckily it's only a 70 page book. But if you know of a way to carry across the margin settings, I'd love to hear it.
Sadly, I do not. I suspect that you will have to set the position for each one. You might consider creating a macro that searches for each text box, selects it, then sets the position. It's a bit beyond my ken, but maybe someone here or on WordPerfect Universe can help out. :)
Olá coloque está caixa no Rodapé ou no Cabeçalho com número de página, que se repete para todas.
