How do one disable the auto recognition of date input in WordPerfect X9 ? It is playing havoc with date fields in other lanuages.
Are you referring to the new feature (enhancement) in Quattro Pro? Can you give an example? Since this is a new feature, I haven't played with it too much.
It may depend on what you have set in Tools | Settings | Application | International | Date Format.
I agree that sometimes features can be "too convenient."
If you haven't specified a date format for the cell you are typing in, QP converts the date to a format based on what you typed, as listed in the Help file. Presumably this is designed to allow you to type something shorter or less precise than the actual format.
If you have specified a date format for a cell (Format | Selection Properties | Numeric Format | Date or F12), QP will use the format you chose for the cell. You can actually enter whatever is most convenient for you to type, and it will convert it.
The format that you choose in Tools | Settings … just determines what will be chosen when you use Format | Selection Properties (F12) and choose either Long Date Intl or Short Date Intl.
For the most part, if I want a date, I have set the date format for the cell, so the "Auto recognition of date input in spreadsheets" is not needed.
What problems are you having?
Thank you for the reply. I work in two lanuages with different spelling for the months (long date 01-Dec-2019. When I don't use Englis, 01-Des-2019 QP x9 converts is automatic to default, although the format is General. Prior to x9, this didn't happen.Although the auto recognition of date input is a great feature, I would like being able to turn it off.
There are 3 places you can set date formats:
1. Windows. In Windows 10: Start Button | Settings | Time & Language | Date & Time | Date, Time & Regional Formatting | Change data formats.
You can also change your default language from Start | Settings.
2. QP: Tools | Settings | Workspace | Application | International | Date format.
The first choice, "Operating System Default," uses whatever you have chosen in Windows.
3. QP, for individual cells: Format | Selection Properties | Numeric format tab | Date.
Long Date Int'l defaults to whatever you have chosen in Tools | Settings.
If the your default language of your computer is English, the date 01-Dec-2019 will be converted to the Date/Time number, but a date with "Des" will not be converted to the Date/Time number. But this was true even before "Auto recognition of date input."
Perhaps some combination of the above 3 settings will work.
It seems that the only thing new is the default display of a date when no format has been set for the cell.
If you are not going to work with the date for calculations or comparisons or sorts, it could be entered as text .
