Have been using WPx9 since its release. Files began opening slowly a couple of weeks ago. WP opens normally though. What could be causing files to open slowly?
The files may be looking for the default printer. Is it directly attached to your computer? Are the files stored on the same drive as the program?
Thanks for getting back to me. Yes, the printer is directly attached to my computer. However the files are stored on a file server and the program is stored on my desktop. This has always been the case and the slowdown began about 2 or 3 weeks ago. is there something else that could be causing the slowdown.
If you are running Windows 10 - there have been a number of reports that during an update M$ changes the default printer, with unfortunate results of a variety of kinds.
trouble shooting network issues can be a pain. A few thoughts on what you can do to resolve this issue
1. Can you open anything else from the file server quickly ?
2. Can you copy the WP file to the local machine and attempt to open it there to test that.
3. Check the event viewer on the file server to see if there are any issues. When was the file server last rebooted ? Have any hardware updates happened in the last few weeks ?
4. Finally here is a link from a person that may resolve your issue: https://www.zubairalexander.com/blog/how-to-fix-slow-access-to-network-shares/
Before doing step 4 on your local machine which is a modification on the registry, i would do the first 3 steps.
Microsoft drops so many updates on Windows it could be that but doing the first few steps you can narrow it down.
