WordPerfect has stopped working ... before it even started :(

I get error 2203 when I try to repair

I have checked the permissions in C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Temp and all is ok

but I cannot seem to reach the C:\Windows\Installer folder

I can have the folder opened... but not reach the folder

I am puzzled  :(

Hey mentalo,

A crash when launching WordPerfect can often be caused by a corrupt default template.  I reviewed the knowledgebase article you mentioned; it looks like the section dealing with removing the default template is mislabeled as "Windows XP only".

Try renaming the following folder (which contains the default template along with some other files):

• C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Corel\PerfectExpert\15\EN\Custom WP Templates\

In fact, if you do not have other Corel software installed, I would recommend renaming the following root folder:

• C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Corel

Unfortunately, this will probably not fix the error 2203 you see while trying to repair.  I'm not sure what causes that error.

As for the "c:\windows\installer" folder, it may simply be hidden by Windows.  You can probably reach it by typing the path in the Windows Explorer address bar, or in the Windows Run dialog.  There are options to show/hide hidden and system folders in the Windows "Folder Options" dialog.

I uninstalled WP (and had no ERROR message this time)

I carefully removed all possible COREL folders from my machine, including the template

I ran a virus check (one never knows....)

installed the software anew (no ERROR message either... I was hopeful)

but as soon as I opened WP... it stopped working

QP still seems fine

As for the "c:\windows\installer" folder, I reach it when I type the path... but this does not allow me to get to the properties of the folder to check the permissions.

my Folder Options is correctly set to "view hidden files and folders", yet I can't see this one

so I'm back to square one....

EDIT : I renamed the root folder but WP promptly created a new one (and stopped working just as fast)

I received the following mail... and do not see the message on the page :

By design, uninstalling the program and reinstalling it will not overwrite existing user created or user modified files -- including your default template. That is why Pascal recommended renaming the items: The program would then not "see" them and create new factory fresh ones.

this is precisely what happened : I renamed the root folder, opened WP... which stopped working immediately, but not before it had created a bran new root folder....

(note that when I had uninstalled the program using the CD, I had also removed all users files....)
